Endograft limb occlusion after endovascular repair of an abdominal aneurysm is a serious complication that requires reintervention. However, the origin of these occlusions is often unknown. Within this project of University of Twente, methods were developed to analyse the relation between limb occlusion and geometrical features of the endograft, based on clinical imaging (upper part). In parallel the relation between blood flow related features and limb occlusion was investigated using a novel high framerate ultrasound technique, using in vitro replicas of the patient specific anatomy (lower part).

In clinical practice this means anatomy and blood flow markers are now available that pose increased risk for limb occlusion. Allowing physicians to better differentiate between patients that require follow-up within several months and patients that can be scheduled for follow-up in the range of years.
