The Dutch steel sector faces a major transition. The production, processing, use and recovery of steel needs to be made significantly more sustainable by 2030 and completely CO2 neutral by 2050. The National Growthfund programme 'Groeien met Groen Staal' is a plan to achieve this, with a range of technologies based on hydrogen, renewable energy and circular iron and steel processing, completely removing the dependency on fossil-fuel based processes.

At the Materials Technology Day, you will gain insight of the Groeien met Groen Staal programme and explore the challenges and opportunities to reach sustainability in the life cycle of steel – the material used in wind turbines, buildings and infrastructure but also in shaver heads and paper clips – in all its facets: from production and processing to use and recovery.

Materials Technology Day 2024 is organised by and taking place at TU Delft, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE).
