The iORC project
The iORC project, led by Somni in partnership with the Photonics research group of THUAS, will develop and demonstrate an innovative fiber-optic strain sensor for monitoring composite materials. The project addresses the challenge of detecting damages in composite materials. Key goals are: 1) Design and manufacturing the fiber-optic large-strain sensor; 2) Creating a testbed for sensor characterization; 3) Testing the sensor under application-relevant conditions; 4) Demonstrating the sensor technology with end-users involved. The project will result in a TRL 4-5 demonstration of the sensor and the development of methods to quantify sensor performance. After completion, Somni plans to further develop and market the sensor globally.
