The Cabinet is allocating €142 million from the National Growth Fund for 6G Future Network Services (6G FNS). This investment will be used to work on the development of the next generation of mobile communication networks.

The 6G Future Network Services project focuses on technologies for 6G networks, which are expected to become available around 2030. Within the program, companies and knowledge institutions are jointly building a strong Dutch ecosystem. In addition, the project contributes to the international standardization of new 6G technologies.

In the third round of the National Growth Fund, €61 million was definitively awarded for the first phase of the project and €142 million was reserved for a follow-up. Since the start in early 2024, various results have already been achieved, including 20 patents, 14 hardware prototypes, and the establishment of six new companies. A subsidy scheme also stimulates the development of new applications of 6G technology.

The advisory committee assesses the project's progress positively. According to the committee, the program contributes substantially to the further development of 6G and to strengthening the position of the Netherlands in the international 6G value chain. Therefore, it recommends allocating the reserved €142 million in full, a recommendation that has been adopted by the Cabinet.
