International leading centre of quantum technology
By signing a declaration of cooperation in the field of quantum technology, the Netherlands and the US have further expanded their existing scientific cooperation.
With the Quantum Delta NL program, the Netherlands can position itself as an internationally leading centre for quantum technology. With the newly signed declaration by US Ambassador Shefali Razdan Duggal (US Embassy The Hague) and Acting Director General for Business and Innovation Guido Biessen, additional opportunities are emerging for the Netherlands in the American market in the field of Quantum Technology.
Quantum technology
Quantum technology is a key technology that enables radically new products and services. Quantum computers, quantum simulators, quantum networks and quantum sensors will soon be able to do things that 'classic' devices can not do. The Netherlands is therefore at the beginning of a technological revolution.
In the future, Quantum will contribute to solving challenges in the field of energy, food and healthcare, for example.
Who is leading the project?
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy is responsible for the project. The implementation of the programme is in the hands of the Quantum Delta NL foundation, a broad collaboration of knowledge institutes, companies and civil society organisations.
Status
With a previous funding from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy in 2019 (the Quantum Delta NL Startimpuls), some prioritized parts of the National Agenda for Quantum Technology (NAQT) have already been implemented. For this reason, the National Growth Fund project can make a flying start in 2021 with the implementation of phase 1. A grant of € 54 million has now been awarded to the Quantum Delta NL Foundation and partners UT/Stichting NanoLabNL and NWO.
