A Dutch delegation of more than 40 organizations recently traveled to Northern France for an intensive battery mission. This mission, organized by Battery Competence Cluster-NL (BCC-NL) and supported by RAI Automotive Industry NL, underscores the Netherlands' growing role in the European battery ecosystem and its ambition to serve as an enabler for next-generation battery technologies.

The mission consisted of two main components: the EU Battery Passport Conference 2026, which featured discussions on transparency, sustainability, and data frameworks for the implementation of the Battery Passport in 2027, was the focal point. It was also followed by the Battery Tech Expo in Lille, where Northern France is positioning itself as a true "Battery Valley" with gigafactories and industrial production.

Strategic priority for energy transition

Batteries are a strategic priority within Dutch and European industrial policy. They are essential for the energy transition, digitalization, and competitiveness. By seeking close collaboration with partners, the Netherlands aims to accelerate scaling up and promote cross-border cooperation.

Full value chain represented

The Dutch delegation represented the entire battery value chain: from materials, recycling, and testing to battery packs, Battery Management Systems (BMS), repair, and after-service. This breadth reflects the Netherlands' national strengths and contribution to Europe's industrial resilience.

Strong Dutch position within Europe

A key message from the conference was that success extends beyond mere compliance. Strategic choices in data governance and the connection between digital and physical value chains are crucial for the effective implementation of the Battery Passport.

Northern France is rapidly developing into a battery hub where gigafactories, cell production, and industrial scale converge. The strategic positioning of the Dutch national booth among leading French players underscores the Netherlands' ambition to play a leading role in Europe's battery ecosystem.

The mission demonstrates that the Netherlands is ready to take action rather than wait and see, and confirms the strong position of the Dutch battery sector within Europe's industrial strategy.
