Dutch deep-tech company LeydenJar has raised a new investment totaling €23 million. Of this amount, €13 million comes from a financing round with Invest-NL and Extantia, and €10 million from a major American electronics manufacturer. This capital will enable LeydenJar to complete the construction of its first commercial production facility, PlantOne in Eindhoven. The facility is scheduled to be operational in 2027 and will produce silicon anodes on an industrial scale.

Breakthrough in battery technology

LeydenJar is developing a unique battery anode made of 100% silicon, a world first. This technology enables batteries with up to 50% more energy density, charging in less than 12 minutes, and 85% lower CO₂ emissions during production. This makes batteries not only more powerful and compact, but also more sustainable. Applications range from consumer electronics to electric vehicles and even aviation.

Who is LeydenJar?

LeydenJar was founded in 2016 as a spin-off from TNO and is headquartered in Leiden. The company has grown into an international player with operations in Europe, Asia, and the US. With the construction of PlantOne in Eindhoven, LeydenJar is taking the step from groundbreaking research to large-scale production.

Future Outlook

The new investment marks a turning point for LeydenJar. According to CEO and co-founder Christian Rood, the technology is already integrated into the roadmaps of leading product developers worldwide. With the large-scale production of silicon anodes, LeydenJar opens the door to new generations of products, such as AI-driven wearables, electric vehicles with extended ranges, and electric aviation.

Significance for the High-Tech Sector

LeydenJar's rise illustrates how Dutch high-tech innovations play a key role in the global energy transition. Invest-NL emphasizes that batteries must become lighter, more powerful, and cleaner to accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral energy system. With this investment, the Netherlands is taking a significant step in strengthening its position in the global battery industry and demonstrating the power of public-private partnerships within the high-tech sector.
