Twelve consortia can start their research projects aimed at (further) developing technological innovations through the Perspectief programme. A crucial factor in these projects is their societal and economic impact. They receive a total of 46.4 million euros in funding from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and NWO. Industry and other partners add an additional backing of 19.6 million euros. The Perspectief programme hereby gives a major boost to the technological innovation power of the Netherlands.
Perspectief is a programme of NWO, funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The programme challenges researchers to work in close cooperation with companies and civil society organisations on technological innovations with societal impact and the creation of economic opportunities for the Netherlands.
Technological innovation is crucial for addressing major societal challenges in the Netherlands. Through the Perspectief program, NWO strengthens the Dutch knowledge and innovation system and directly contributes to mission-driven innovation policy and the National Technology Strategy. The new projects focus on urgent themes, such as advanced semiconductor technology, sustainable food production, innovative water purification, and personalized nanotherapies.
Perspectief encourages interdisciplinary collaboration between science, industry, and societal partners, ensuring that innovations are effectively implemented in practice. To facilitate particularly promising research, NWO has increased its budget by a one-time €20 million in this round. This will provide a significant boost to research with significant societal and economic impact
Vincent Karremans, Minister of Economic Affairs:
Programmes like Perspectief contribute to technological solutions for societal challenges as well as economic growth. At a time when we desperately need innovation for our health, safety and prosperity, it is vital that researchers and entrepreneurs know how to find each other. By stimulating public-private partnerships and making targeted investments in knowledge development, we ensure that the Netherlands remains a major player worldwide in the future.
Margot Weijnen, chair of NWO's Applied and Engineering Sciences domain:
I am proud of what the Perspectief programme manages to achieve time and again: the development or further development of technological innovations resulting from intensive collaboration between researchers, companies and civil society organisations.
