Wilbert IJzerman
Wilbert IJzerman is an experienced scientist and leader in industrial R&D. He also heads the Lighting Technology sector within the research organization of Signify NV, a global leader in the lighting industry. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization, maintaining the long-term technology roadmap and its execution for all lighting products, transferring new technologies to all businesses worldwide, and creating a strong patent portfolio for the company. Wilbert IJzerman is also a professor and head of the Lighting Optics department at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He is part of the Scientific Computing and Applications team (CASA) at TU/e. The group's work has resulted in a new, versatile algorithm for mass transport problems that can be solved with arbitrary cost functions, as well as improved ray tracing methods that are 1000 times faster and 100 times more accurate than current state-of-the-art methods. These methods are relevant and used in the design of optical components in industry. He is (co-)author of more than 50 issued US patents. Wilbert is also a member of the Industrial Advisory Committee of the European Optical Society, founder of Optics Netherlands, and a member of the HTSM Roadmap Board.
After receiving his Master's degree in Applied Physics in 1995 (cum laude) and his Master's degree in Applied Mathematics (cum laude) in 1996, Wilbert earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics in 2000, all from the University of Twente.
He completed his Executive MBA at the Rotterdam School of Management in 2011.
