About the call

Mission-driven innovation for transitions takes place in a dynamic, complex context. In order not to slow down transitions and preferably to accelerate them, the adaptivity of both systems and organisations as well as the individuals involved is required. Adaptivity contributes to the resilience needed to withstand disruptions, respond to opportunities, stimulate innovation and achieve long-term goals. It is not yet sufficiently known how adaptivity can be increased and used for sustainable transitions.

This call funds research into adaptivity in three specific transition contexts:

• Transition of the food system
• Transition to sustainable mobility
• Transition of the energy system in the built environment. 

A total of €7,000,000 is available for this call. The deadline for submitting the full application is June 9, 2026, at 14:00 PM.

Meetings

To encourage collaboration between interested parties and provide more information about this call, NWO is organising several meetings.

An online information meeting about this call for proposals will take place on 20 January from 14:00 to 15:00 PM. Participants will receive more information about the call and the submission process and will have the opportunity to ask questions. Attendance at this meeting is without obligation.

In addition to the information session, NWO is organising two collaborative workshops on 2 February and 2 March at Antropia in Driebergen. These workshops will provide an opportunity to get acquainted, exchange ideas and form consortia. Principal applicants must attend both workshops in order to submit an application.
