The Ministry of Defence is seeking innovative ideas and solutions that contribute to a future-proof armed forces. The Defence Market Exploration 2025 focuses on three themes: scalable deployability, self-sufficient resilience, and a robust foundation.

With this market exploration, the Ministry of Defence—in collaboration with COMMIT and the NIDV's Sustainability, Safety & Environment platform—wants to investigate which sustainable innovations from both the defence and civilian sectors can contribute to these themes

Three themes

Consider the following themes:

  • Scalable deployability: How can sustainable and circular innovations be used to extend the lifespan of equipment to ensure a scalable armed forces? Consider converting equipment for military use, alternative contract types where availability is the primary objective, and applications to align existing equipment with current needs.
  • Self-sufficiency: How can energy security be created by using fuels more efficiently and deploying the latest renewable energy technologies? Consider energy-efficient systems and equipment.
  • Robust bases: How can the Ministry of Defence prepare for climate adaptation at its locations, in the Netherlands, and on missions? Consider scenarios involving extremes of drought, water, or heat.
