Under the title Heterogeneous development solutions for semiconductors & Scaling up quantum technologies, a new KIC call will soon open. This KIC mission call is a collaboration between NWO and Holland High Tech. The call focuses on funding fundamental and applied research in the fields of semiconductors and quantum technologies. The expected opening date is Q1 2026.
The call covers two research areas. The first focuses on developing new design and process technologies for the heterogeneous integration of chiplets within a single package, combining multiple physical domains. Artificial intelligence plays a key role in optimisation, design exploration and testing methods for advanced 2D and 3D integration.
The second research area focuses on quantum technologies, which have the potential to fundamentally transform existing systems for computation, communication and security. These technologies are still in an early stage of development compared to classical semiconductors. To accelerate the transition from fundamental research to practical applications, targeted knowledge development is needed on the production and scaling of quantum systems.
