On Saturday 5 October, the student teams from the four Technical Universities (TUs) will be present with their vehicles, demos and workshops at the Marineterrein Amsterdam as part of the Weekend of Science; the national festival for young and old with scientists, experiments and inspiring discoveries.
What to expect:
- The RISE Team from the University of Twente and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam will be there with a workshop and a demo of the MK5 - a rocket that deploys a parachute for a soft landing. This solution makes it possible to reuse the rocket;
- Team VIRTUe from the Eindhoven University of Technology will talk to visitors about the terraced house of the future and what it should look like: spacious, sustainable and climate-proof;
- Team Delft Hyperloop from the Delft University of Technology will demonstrate their hyperloop - a means of transport that works on magnetic force and they will organize a workshop;
- Team Robatic Bullseye from Wageningen University & Research will show a field robot that drives independently through the corn fields and can extinguish fires in the fields;
- At the Solar Team Twente and the Brunel Solar Team from the Delft University of Technology, children will have the opportunity to view a high-tech solar car up close;
- The Solar Boat Twente team will let children experience how a boat can float above the water using the power of the sun with a demo and a workshop;
- Team University Racing Eindhoven shows one of their electric, self-driving racing cars and children can discover how the different parts work;
- With the student team Totem Game Dev from TU Eindhoven you can try out various new video games and give feedback on them;
- The student team WDSense from TU Delft and Wageningen University & Research is there with a sensor that measures the functioning of the kidneys;
- In the workshop Biodiversity Challenge from Wageningen University & Research children learn what biodiversity is. They go in search of wild plants and animals in the immediate vicinity of the AMS Institute;
- In the workshop Electronics: unfixable?! from TU Delft Science Centre children dismantle and reassemble an old device. They discover which materials are used, and why many devices are difficult or impossible to repair;
- In the workshop Design your own sustainable jeans from TU Delft Science Centre children discover how you can work on completely new ways to design clothing without residual waste.

More about the Weekend of Science
Science is everywhere and always around us, sometimes without us realizing it. It is the basis of our technology, medicine and our knowledge of the world around us. But how much do we actually know about the science behind our daily lives? This year, during Science Weekend, we will focus on the question: ‘How does it work?’. From ‘How does a dinosaur work?’ to ‘How does the sun work?’. During Science Weekend, children can search for answers to these and many other questions, and they will be taken on a fascinating journey through science. The festival is organised by NEMO Science Museum on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
