At the end of April, Minister Micky Adriaansens visited LeydenJar Technologies B.V., where innovative batteries are developed that are more energy-efficient and reduce CO2 emissions. As a part of NXTGEN HIGHTECH the company received an investment from the National Growth Fund.
Durable and safe super batteries
Better and more compact energy storage is essential for technological breakthroughs in a number of sectors. For example, the further development of electric cars and wireless electronics is highly dependent on the availability of batteries with greater capacity and lifespan.
Within the NXTGEN HIGHTECH program, thin-film technology is used to develop safe batteries with more energy and a longer lifespan, which are also produced in a cleaner and more sustainable manner than the current lithium-ion batteries. The production of batteries is currently still mainly in the hands of companies from China, South Korea and Japan. There is a European push to develop battery technology to which we as the Netherlands can make an important contribution by deploying the developments from the NXTGEN HIGHTECH programme.
