The increase in research and development of batteries in the Netherlands creates an increasing need to test and certify batteries. The Netherlands has great ambitions, particularly in the field of battery development for heavy vehicles and vessels (such as buses, trucks and boats) and stationary storage. The Battery Competence Cluster – NL has therefore set up a platform to provide insight and overview of the various open test facilities available in the Netherlands.
Platform for overview
By creating an overview, companies can see where they can test their products and systems. In this way, parties are connected more quickly and the testing and certification needs can be better met. On the platform you will find test facilities and knowledge about battery materials, battery systems, and recycling, for heavy transport, non-road applications, vessels and stationary storage. You can also see here which types of tests can be administered at which test facilities.
Next steps
The overview is the result of an initial study that the partners TNO and ELEO have carried out within the BCC-NL in particular. Ronald van den Putte of TNO says: “The BCC-NL is a knowledge platform for the battery ecosystem. By mapping out the test facilities, we create value for many parties in the ecosystem.”
A follow-up study will look at how commercial companies and knowledge institutions can share their test facilities with external parties in order to offer an interesting proposition to companies and customers in the battery value chain. Key questions include: What is the market need for sharing test facilities? What are the possible cost structures for sharing test facilities between market parties? And also: How can test facilities be connected to each other?
