In a learning community, companies, educational institutions and knowledge institutions work closely together and learning, working and innovation are optimally connected. As a result, innovations develop more quickly and find their way into business and education practice more quickly. Together with all top sectors, Holland High Tech stimulates learning communities in our innovation ecosystem.

In this video, Marc Hendrikse (Figurehead Holland High Tech) and Eva van der Boom (Human Capital coordinator Holland High Tech, FME) take you to the essence of learning communities and the importance of participation by companies. Frank Bruls (Manager training and courses Mikrocentrum) and Tim van Kampen (Technical Director Ceratec technical Ceramics) also explain how they use Life Long Development in their company formation. Saskia Peters (Sales & Marketing Holland Innovative) also gives a good example of Life Long Development.

The ambition for the Learning Communities

''In the Netherlands there are currently more than 450 collaborations between companies and education. Innovation is central to a learning community. And there are far fewer of them in the Netherlands. There are currently twelve learning communities in our sector. The ambition for the learning communities is that more than 100 will be developed within all ten of the top sectors. Since we already have twelve, we as a top sector are doing well,'' says Eva van der Boom (Human Capital coordinator Holland High Tech, FME). According to Eva, the nice thing about learning communities is that students from MBO, HBO and WO work together with companies and knowledge institutions.

Het belang voor bedrijven

Marc Hendrikse (Figurehead Holland High Tech): ''It is essential for companies to participate in a learning community. Actually for three reasons. First of all, the fact that young students come into contact with the company and may also become interested in working for that company. But also the cooperation with the knowledge institutions to allow the company's innovation and the cross-fertilization between the three to take place. And with that also to get the company back to a higher level. The contributions of a learning community to Life Long Development is essential.''

According to Saskia Peters (Sales & Marketing Holland Innovative), the NXTGEN HIGHTECH System Engineering is a good example. This is about Life Long Development, so MBO, HBO, university, learning on the job and much more.

Tim van Kampen (Technical Director Ceratec technical Ceramics): ''Interns in the high-tech industry are very important to us. Because our processes also have to be adjusted more and more in a process-oriented manner. And because we have fewer and fewer craftsmen to make the work we deliver to our customers."

Frank Bruls (Mikrocentrum training and courses manager) explains that Mikrocentrum has had Life Long Development in its DNA for 55 years. ''We do this together with our hybrid teachers. With teachers from the industry, we fill the gap between what the business community needs and the knowledge people have when they leave school. The business community is developing so quickly, we can fill that gap perfectly with those hybrid teachers from the business community.''

Learning Communities as a solution for shortages in the labor market

Eva says that there are currently a lot of labor shortages in our sector. ''Learning communities contribute to solving this problem in various ways. We also notice that it is attractive to women and that they find it important to work on socially relevant issues, whatever happens there. We will continue to grow with the learning communities. So you have a good idea. sign up then."
