The Ministry of Defence has started a “Strategic Defence Innovation Research” (SDIR) to improve future landing craft with smart materials in collaboration with the Dutch composites industry. These craft are crucial for the fast and safe transport of our troops and equipment. By using smart materials, the ships become stronger, faster, more manoeuvrable and more versatile and sustainable. The deadline for submitting a proposal is 28 March 2025. Phase 1 has a total budget of 900,000 euros. The information meeting is on 4 februari 2025.

This SDIR has been announced by the Ministry of Defence, Materiel Command and IT on the Mercell tender platform and interested companies can register.
This SDIR falls under the NLD Smart Materials area. It is expected that a number of use cases will be presented this year in order to also give the Smart Materials ecosystem a boost. In this, the Ministry of Defence is looking for an innovative collaboration with the Dutch business community.
