This project contributes to the High Tech Materials roadmap by conducting a feasibility study to a facility and qualification methods for dynamic materials testing at deep cryogenic temperatures. This will enable the realisation of Next generation engineering materials.
The facility and qualification methods are necessary to build fundamental scientific understanding of structural properties at relevant temperature fluctuations and stresses. The durability and evolution of wear and damage can be understood in this way. This is to ultimately understand the performance of improved or even completely new materials and related products from basic physical principles, so that science-based materials engineering can accelerate industrial development.
