Future cyber-physical systems (e.g. autonomous driving) require the exchange of financial data (e.g. between a car, road, and edge infrastructure). FinTech platforms enable these transactions and exchanges but must be open and interoperable to ensure inclusivity for a diverse set of system users (e.g. car drivers).

To achieve openness and interoperability, we need advances in technology (e.g. data interoperability) and business models (e.g. responsible data environments). This research project elaborates on the urgent task of promoting an inclusive FinTech ecosystem based on openness within and between FinTech platforms.

This research will explore the role of the banking sector as an integrator and catalyst, examining inclusivity as a primary goal in terms of feasibility given the viability and legitimacy of the underlying business models.

The scientific challenge this project addresses is finding the right boundaries (given the systemic nature, diverse interfaces in play, and the significant uncertainty regarding developments in cyber-physical reality). Despite these challenges, it is timely to consider such major issues now to avoid suboptimality (such as power-play by, for example, social media platforms).
