Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CARs) can be used to equip a set of our immune cells, T cells, with bespoke receptors for killing tumour cells. CAR T cells can now provide excellent cancer therapies, even achieving complete remission. However, so far CAR T cells can only cure few cancer types, mostly blood cancers.

In this project, researchers will use advanced microscopy to understand how these receptors re-program immune cells, map out their design principles and develop new techniques to identify CAR receptors with as yet untapped potential for the clinic.
