On 23 March, the Symposium on Space, Data and Intelligence took place at the HSD Campus in The Hague, as part of the Knowledge and Innovation Agenda for Security (Agenda Security). Safety is one of the four social themes in the government's mission-driven innovation policy. The participants working for companies, knowledge institutes and government organizations gained insight into the results of the Mission Space and the Mission Data and Intelligence and took part in discussions about a renewed Agenda Security.
Successful innovation projects
Each mission showed some successful innovation projects. For example, the mission stimulated Data and Intelligence collaboration by shaping consortia on NWO Calls, which led to the HEWSTI project. Fabio Massacci of VU Amsterdam discussed how the Hybrid Explainable Workflows for Security and Threat Intelligence (HEWSTI) project can contribute to a safer society. Two appealing examples were also discussed from investigation and supervision where satellite data can be of added value as intelligence and the detection of abuses.
The Netherlands: safer and more resilient
The symposium initiated a discussion about cooperation in the triple helix. In particular, how you can achieve better, faster, cheaper services for and by government institutions and the creation of economic opportunities through social challenges, knowledge building by knowledge institutions and the development of innovative applications by companies.
The speakers emphasized the need for joint innovation programming by knowledge institutions, companies and government organizations to advance the security field and create a safer and more resilient Netherlands.
