Health News Healthcare Technology Nanotechnology Calls

The European ERA4Health partnership has published its call for proposals for research into nano and advanced technologies for disease prevention, diagnostic and therapy (NANOTECMEC). A total budget of 2.6 million euros is available for Dutch researchers at universities of academic hospitals working in international consortia.

Nano technologies have the potential to enable earlier diagnosis and prevention of diseases and to improve the curing, treatment and diagnosis of various diseases. Because the implementation of the results of scientific research in clinical practice has proved problematic in Europe,  Era4Health is launching this call to foster translational research projects that offer an innovative nanomedical approach to health issues which need to be addressed through transnational collaboration.

Focus areas

The call focuses on three priority areas:

  • Regenerative medicine
  • Diagnostics
  • Nano therapy

Budget and partner countries

A total of €2.6 million is available for Dutch proposers, with a maximum per project of €325,000. The following countries are involved in the call: Belgium, Estonia, France, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey. Each research proposal should involve at least three and up to five countries. This may be expanded to six or seven countries when Lithuania, Turkey and/or Slovakia participate as additional countries.

About ERA4Health

ERA4Health is a European Partnership within the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme. The partnership has been established to fund international research into cardiovascular disease, nanomedicine and nutrition, health and prevention over a period of seven years. ERA4Health’s research agenda is a consolidated follow-up to the earlier health research programmes ERA-CVD, EuroNanoMed and Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life. The Netherlands is represented in ERA4Health by NWO and ZonMw.

About European Partnerships

The European co‐funded partnerships are part of Horizon Europe, the EU’s funding programme for research and innovation (2021-2027). Their aim is to foster high-impact research to address complex societal challenges. The calls for proposals launched by the European Partnerships elicit thematic research that is linked to the missions of the Knowledge and Innovation Covenant and the routes of the Dutch Research Agenda.
