The healthcare industry faces an enormous challenge resulting from a rapidly growing and ageing population. Healthcare technology can help us live healthier and better lives, while at the same time reducing costs in the areas of prevention, healing and care. It is clear that health and healthcare must be organised differently in order to maintain and improve the level of quality.
Value for the Dutch high tech industry
Innovative technologies, the use of big data and artificial intelligence are of great importance in healthcare, for example, for vital prognoses. They will drastically change our ability to function and our quality of life.
Huge advances are expected in research and technology areas such as image-guided interventions, intelligent catheters, personalised medicine, biosensors, regenerative medicine, robotics, and (low-energy) electronics for secure communication and expansion of processing and memory capacity. Digitalisation of healthcare will greatly increase the amount of personal and sensitive data that is recorded, shared and analysed.
Population ageing and the increase in chronic diseases will not only put pressure on the sustainability of healthcare systems, they will also lead to an increasing need for human hands on the work floor.
The road map paints a picture of the potential of digital technologies in healthcare.
